Faith Over Fear

These are challenging times. Life for many of us has been significantly altered. Many of us are affected by the COVID- 19 pandemic. Most places are on lock-down or some form of isolation. Social distancing is now the new normal. The news is filled with an increasing number of casualties and indeed, the hearts of many are failing them for fear and it seems no one knows how long this would last.

Some already may be nursing the evident fear of the present; lost jobs, accumulating debts, lost of friends or loved ones, impending economic recession, inability to meet up with financial obligations and others. These are real issues that we would definitely have to deal with. However, fear is the wrong response.

The first message of the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior is simple; Fear Not! The angel said it to the women, and Jesus repeated the same thing, shortly after. “Then the angel spoke to the women. “Don’t be afraid!…” Then Jesus said to them, “Don’t be afraid!…” (Matt 28:5,10)

This message is especially relevant at this crucial period of our lives because the fear of the future is the present reality of our world today. It is obvious that fear is putting a lot more people in bondage than the virus. The pain caused by panic is definitely more destructive. Part of the reason Jesus died is to “free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.” (Heb 2:15, NLT).

This is not the time to fear but a time to put on your armor of faith and declare what God has said concerning you and your family. Let your declaration be what God has said in His word and not what is going on in the world. Please do not let your heart be troubled. Our help is in the name of the Lord. Remember, this lock-down is not a knockdown. The earth will yet blossom again. Your future is secured in Christ.

Hallelujah.

“But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you” (Psalm 56:3, NLT)
